The Holy Makkah is not only famous for Holy Kaabah but also for some other historical places. The two most famous amongst them are the mountains of Hira and Thor. These two places occupy a special sacred place in the Islamic world. Every year Muslims visit these places during Hajj and Umrah in order to gain blessings of Allah
Mount Hira
This is the mountain having a cave known as ‘Cave Hira’, where Prophet (S.A.W.W) received his first revelation. Prophet (S.A.W.W) would more often go to this cave to worship Allah even before revelation. Hazrat Ayesha (R.A) said, ‘the Prophecy of Prophet (S.A.W.W) started off with true dreams. Whatever he would see in his dream at night exactly the same would happen in the day. Hence, Prophet (S.A.W.W) began to remain in solitude. Therefore, he would go to the Cave Hira for worship’. Once he was in the cave that an angel came and he said, ‘Read’. Prophet (S.A.W.W) was unlettered so he said, ‘I don’t know how to read’. The angel upon hearing this gripped Prophet (S.A.W.W) so firmly that he felt pain, then he released Prophet (S.A.W.W) and said, ’Read’. Prophet (S.A.W.W) again said, ‘I cannot read’. The angel did the same thrice and then asked, ‘Now Read’. Then Prophet (S.A.W.W) started reciting the first five verses of Surah Alaq.
Once Prophet (S.A.W.W) was sitting with his companions on Mount Hira, including Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A), Hazrat Usman (R.A), Hazrat Ali (R.A), HazratTalha (R.A) and HazratZubair (R.A), the rock being to quake. Prophet (S.A.W.W) said, ‘Stop, a Prophet, Siddiq and martyrs are sitting upon you’.

Mount Thor
This mountain is situated in the South of Makkah. Prophet (S.A.W.W) and Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) hid in this mountain at the time of migration. Allah has mentioned this mountain in the Quran as well (Surah Tauba, 40). When non-believers planned to kill Prophet (S.A.W.W) or to arrest him or exile him. Prophet (S.A.W.W) upon hearing this went to a cave along with his companion. They both stayed in the cave for three days.  Hazrat Abu Bakr (R.A) was worried about non-believers getting to know about them. Prophet (S.A.W.W) supported him saying, ‘Abu Bakr what do you think of those two men with third one Allah with them”’ Almost every Muslim desires to visit these Holy Mountains in Makkah to see the footprints of those who sacrificed their lives for Allah and Islam.
