They all gathered around Prophet (S.A.W.W) and were hoping that Prophet (S.A.W.W) would stop by their house. Prophet (S.A.W.W) answered everyone in a polite manner and said that wherever this camel stops that would be my house. The camel moved forward and stopped at the point where Masjid-e-Nabvi is present today. Prophet (S.A.W.W) inquired who owned the land. He got to know that the land was owned by two orphan brothers so he purchased the land and levelled up the ground.
After that Prophet (S.A.W.W) ordered that this newly acquired land should be made into a masjid. The construction began immediately. Most of the material used was made of stone bricks however, in the middle of the northern wall facing the first direction(Qibla) in Jerusalem; stones were installed on either side of the prayer niche. The pillars were made of palm trees trunk to support the roof. There were also small stones laid on the masjid floor in order to prevent it from mud and dust. Prophet (S.A.W.W) also built a small shaded area at the rear of the masjid known as As-Suffah where poor companions (Sahaba) would come and spend their night. Two small huts like houses were also constructed on the eastern side of the masjid to accommodate Hazrat Ayesha (R.A) and Hazrat Sauda (R.A) known as Hujra (small room). The masjid was constructed twice during the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W). The first time masjid was built when he migrated to Madinah and the second time during the conquest of Khaybar. The masjid got expanded with the passage of time in order to accommodate more people at one time.
